Lethani

Privacy

Lethani is a research platform. Researchers use it to run surveys and interviews; respondents answer them. This page explains what Lethani itself does with data. It is deliberately short.

Two roles

If you answered a survey or interview that runs on Lethani, the organisation that runs the study is responsible for your data. Lethani processes it on their behalf under a data-processing agreement. Each survey links its own privacy notice from the first screen; that notice names the responsible organisation and how to reach them. To exercise your rights, contact them. Every survey also has a deletion page where you can remove your answers yourself using the response ID shown at the end.

If you have a researcher account, Lethani is responsible for the account data described below.

Researcher accounts

We store your name, email address, password hash, the workspaces you belong to, and the research data you upload or create. We use it to provide the service, to send transactional email (invitations, notifications you asked for), and to keep the service secure. We do not sell it and we do not use it for advertising. Account data is kept while the account exists and deleted on request.

Providers

Lethani runs on a small number of providers, each bound by a data-processing agreement:

  • Hosting: servers operated by Hetzner Online GmbH (Helsinki, Finland), with Cloudflare in front for connectivity and protection.
  • AI analysis (optional, where a researcher uses it): Anthropic, for analysing transcripts and survey answers, and Voyage AI, for grouping written answers. Neither trains models on this data.
  • Email: Resend, for transactional email to researchers.
  • Error monitoring: Sentry, which receives technical error information only, never survey answers.
  • Research panels (optional, where a researcher uses one): if a study recruits through a panel such as Prolific, the panel's own terms apply to the panel relationship.

Some providers are outside the European Economic Area. Where that is the case, transfers are covered by standard contractual clauses or an equivalent safeguard.

Cookies

Lethani sets only cookies that are necessary to run the service: a session cookie for logged-in researchers, a cookie that remembers a researcher's active workspace, and for respondents a cookie that lets them resume a survey on the same device. None is used for advertising or cross-site tracking, so no cookie banner is shown.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit. Databases are backed up continuously and copies are kept off the primary server. Access is limited to the people who operate the service.
